Position Summary:

Tangent Fire District is seeking a dynamic, progressive, and energetic leader with exceptional interpersonal skills to serve as Fire Chief.  The department includes a full time Chief, Assistant Chief (Training Officer), Staff Battalion Chief (Prevention/PubEd), and a half- time Office Administrator, along with a dedicated group of Volunteers and Student Interns.  The Fire Chief administers a budget of approximately 1.5 million and reports to a five- member Board of Directors.  The Tangent Fire District provides protection to approximately 3400 citizens in a 45 square mile rural area of Linn County in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, 80 miles south of Portland. The area is primarily agricultural with grass seed, wheat, hay, barley, and other grains being the primary crops.

TRFPD is an all-hazard combination department providing fire suppression, EMS, prevention, and education services. In 2021 the district responded to 415 calls for service with the majority of calls being medical first response.  TRFPD has robust automatic and mutual aid agreements in place with our neighboring fire agencies and frequently responds to other districts for emergency calls and station coverage.  In addition to agricultural fires TRFPD also is home to a number of industrial facilities with hazardous processes, as well as major transportation routes, including Interstate 5, Hwy 34, Hwy 99, and a primary north/south Union Pacific rail line.

The ideal candidate will have a proven history of leadership for at least five years in a similar or larger organization at the level of Battalion Chief or above.  Preferred qualifications include Executive Fire Officer certification, Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Administration, Business Management, Public Administration, or a related field. The annual salary range for this position is $75,560 to $94,330, DOQ, plus an excellent fringe benefit package. Tangent Fire District is an equal opportunity employer.
