The Oregon Fire Service Capacity Program

The Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) is excited to announce a new grant opportunity to boost the long-term capacity of Oregon fire service agencies for fire response and prevention. The Oregon Fire Service Capacity Program is geared toward small to medium agencies where an increase of permanent local firefighters and fire prevention staff is needed.

This grant opportunity is competitive and is available to Oregon’s local fire districts and departments. Local fire agencies may apply for funds to support up to two (2) firefighters and two (2) fire prevention personnel.

This funding will increase on-duty capacity throughout the next three years at the local level, allow agencies to quickly mobilize to fires at the local, regional, and state (conflagration) scales, and help prepare communities to survive wildfires better. Having more on-duty firefighters will help keep fires small before they can impact communities, and more fire prevention personnel will help communities threatened by fire be more resilient.

We will also be hosting an optional clinic on October 13, 2022 at 9 am to answer any questions you may have. You do not need to attend the clinic to be eligible to apply. However, we encourage you to attend or watch the recording before applying for this grant opportunity. I will send out a calendar invite and link in a separate email.

This is an exciting opportunity for our Office to offer. The state legislature allocated this funding through Senate Bill 762 to help boost capacity through equipment upgrades and people. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our Office.

Please direct any clarifying questions about the grant to our Grants Manager at OSFM.Grants@osp.oregon.gov.
