In honor of National Library Week, we want to shine a spotlight on Oregon's library districts and provide this page as a hub of important library information. Let's delve into what makes these districts special and how they contribute to enriching the lives of Oregonians.

There are a total of 31 library districts in Oregon which includes 25 special districts which function with autonomy from local government and 6 county library service districts which are generally overseen by a county commissioner.

Here are some things that make Oregon Library Districts special:

 Diversity of Services

Oregon Library Districts offer a wide range of services tailored to meet the needs of their communities. This includes traditional services like book lending, computer access, and reference assistance. However, modern libraries also provide digital resources, maker spaces, educational programs, and community events that cater to diverse interests and learning styles.

Community Engagement

Libraries in Oregon actively engage with their communities through outreach programs, book clubs, author talks, and workshops. These initiatives not only promote literacy and lifelong learning but also foster a sense of belonging and connection among residents. Libraries often serve as hubs for cultural exchange, collaboration, and civic engagement.

Accessible Resources

One of the fundamental principles of library districts is to provide equitable access to information for everyone. Whether it's providing free internet access, offering materials in multiple languages, or hosting assistive technology for patrons with disabilities, Oregon libraries strive to ensure that information and resources are accessible to all members of the community.

Innovation and Adaptability

Libraries in Oregon are not static institutions; they continuously evolve to meet the changing needs of their patrons. This includes embracing technology, experimenting with new service models, and staying updated on trends in information literacy and digital literacy. Libraries also play a vital role in promoting information literacy skills, helping patrons navigate the vast sea of information available today.

Collaboration and Partnerships

Oregon Library Districts often collaborate with schools, local businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies to expand their reach and impact. These partnerships lead to innovative programs, shared resources, and enhanced services that benefit the entire community. Collaborative efforts also strengthen the library's role as a community anchor and a catalyst for positive change.
