The Jefferson Rural Fire Protection District (JRFPD) is seeking a Fire Service / EMS leader as the next chief of the district. This recruitment will replace the current retiring chief in August 2022.
The district’s main station and administrative headquarters is located on Main St in Jefferson. The district serves southern Marion County and northern Linn County. Jefferson is located in a rural and agricultural setting. However, there is easy access to I-5 and Hwy 99E runs through Jefferson.
The chief, 5 career employees, 17 volunteers and 14 part-time employees provide service to an approximate population of 9200 and the motoring public on I-5, Hwy 99E and local roadways.
The chief is responsible to the board of directors for the effective and efficient leadership of the department.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in fire service administration, technology, operations, business, management, public administration; or a related field of study.
  • A minimum of ten years of fire/EMS service experience. Experience in a combination department is preferred. Career experience in one agency and volunteer experience in another may be considered.
  • A minimum of five years of supervisory/leadership experience in the fire service comparable (or higher than) to a Battalion Chief/Division Chief/Captain (the five years may be part of the ten years noted above)
  • Or a combination of education, experience, and / or training that clearly illustrates the candidate has the ability to perform at the CEO level for the JRFPD
