DEQ to hold brainstorming session on EPA grant opportunity for wildfire smoke preparedness

Statewide, OR—The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality will be hosting a community brainstorming session from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, to discuss the recently announced U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant opportunity for Wildfire Smoke Preparedness in Community Buildings. An EPA information session related to this same funding opportunity is scheduled from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. PDT on Monday, April 10. More information about this funding opportunity and where to register for the EPA’s information session.

The goal of this funding opportunity is to improve public health protection against smoke from wildfires by enhancing preparedness in community buildings. EPA is soliciting applications for projects that support this effort through activities such as:

  • smoke readiness planning,
  • outreach and training for smoke readiness,
  • indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring,
  • deployment of portable air cleaners,
  • identification and preparation of cleaner air shelters, and
  • significant improvements to buildings such as upgrading and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) units or systems and weatherization.

As a state prone to wildfire smoke, DEQ wants to support this work and our valued partners around Oregon in whatever way possible. DEQ invites all who are interested to attend this brainstorming session. This session will be held virtually and can be accessed using the meeting details below:
