The City of Lakeside is a “Hidden Gem" located in Coos County, Oregon, with a rich history that once was a getaway for many of Hollywood's rich and famous. Lakeside is located on the beautiful Oregon coast, just off Highway 101 between North Bend and Reedsport. Lakeside is located on the banks of Oregon’s fourth largest lake, called Ten Mile Lake. Lakeside’s close proximity to coastal beaches, bays, rivers, sand dunes and forested recreational areas makes it an ideal coastal recreation spot. 

Lakeside is a home-rule city with a mayor/council form of government. The City Council consists of a mayor and six councilors who are elected by the city at large. The City Recorder reports to the Mayor and Council. He/she will work closely with the Mayor and Council in carrying out the duties of the position. 

The population of Lakeside is approximately 1,839 with a current budget of$15 million which includes $10+ million, managed by an outside company, for the construction of a new wastewater plant scheduled for construction sometime in the summer of 2025. The City contracts for a City Attorney and a City Engineer. 

The new city recorder will be expected to be in the office five days a week. He/she will have direct supervision of two full-time office staff with additional indirect oversight of five full-time employees. 

 

 

The Candidate: 

Required Education and Experience 

An Associate of Arts (AA) degree or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Administration Assistance is preferred with three years’ work experience in municipal administration. In lieu of an AA or AAS degree a MMC or CMC certification from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, or the ability to obtain a CMC certification within three years, with the combination of at least three years’ work experience in municipal administration as a clerk or city recorder may be considered. 

 

Successful candidates must have considerable knowledge of the modern policies and practices of municipal administration; hands-on experience in municipal finance and budgeting, human resources, public works, community development, land use planning and e-permitting. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate the following skills and abilities: 

  • Planning, directing and administering municipal programs. 
  • Preparing and analyzing comprehensive reports. 
  • Carrying out assigned projects to their completion. 
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, city officials and the public. 
  • Effective Leadership Skills. 
  • Ability to prioritize workload. 
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in QuickBooks. 
  • Fiscally responsible, with ability to manage budget and fund accounting. 
  • Ability to manage contracts and projects. 
  • Ability to employ common sense in problem solving. 
  • Must be able to multitask. 
  • Grant writing is desirable. 
  • Draft, interpret and enforce city ordinances. 
  • Keep the Mayor and Council advised of critical information. 
  • Supervise city employees effectively and fairly while motivating them according to supervisory standards. 

 

Compensation 

The starting salary for this position is $60,000 to $70,000/yr, depending upon qualifications and experience. 

Salary exempt position. 

Compensatory time off. 

The city participates in PERS.
