Upcoming Events Boards That Perform Workshop

Provided by ODOT

This 4-6 hour training will be split into 2 separate webinars. Attendees could attend 1 or both depending on the topic of most interest to them. The 2 courses together will examine the Transit Board Member’s charge to oversee a safe, cost-effective, and customer-friendly public transportation system. Along with the privilege of serving as a Board Member come very serious roles and responsibilities involving safety issues, legal concerns, stewardship of public funds, and public advocacy. The course will examine key roles and responsibilities for Board Members and will provide guidance on how to carry these out in the context of public transit. The course will also explore the division of responsibility between the Board, the Executive Director/General Manager and the agency staff. This program uses materials from the National Rural Transportation Program.

Day 1 (June 16, 2026):

The 1st Board Training Session will cover core roles and responsibilities of a transit board; the fiduciary duty of a board; and distinguishing between board's strategic role from the General Manager/Transit Director's operational role.

Day 2 (June 17, 2026):

This 2nd session would cover "mastering the board packet" ... what should and shouldn't be included for informed and efficient decision making; avoiding common pitfalls talking about real-world case studies of transit board failures and how to avoid them.
