The Special Districts Association of Oregon (SDAO) is seeking an experienced Senior Claims Consultant to join our Property & Casualty Claims team. In this role, you will investigate and manage a wide variety of complex property and casualty claims from inception through resolution. You will conduct factual and legal investigations, evaluate liability and damages, establish appropriate reserves, estimate litigation costs, negotiate settlements, and help guide the strategy and direction of assigned claims.
What You'll Do
As a Senior Claims Consultant, you will:
- Investigate and manage property and casualty claims of varying complexity.
- Evaluate liability and determine the value of claims.
- Negotiate settlements within established authority.
- Establish and maintain appropriate claim reserves.
- Manage claim files from inception through conclusion.
- Participate in litigation meetings and help determine claim strategy and direction.
- Develop strong relationships with members, claimants, and others involved in the claims process through timely, accurate, and responsive communication.
- Provide leadership and assistance to less experienced Claims Consultants.
This position requires someone who is comfortable working with a high degree of independence, analyzing complex information, and making sound decisions, sometimes without having complete information available.
The successful candidate will bring:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of five years of experience handling the full cycle of insurance claims, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
- A current and valid driver's license.
- Broad knowledge of claims coverage, including commercial property claims, insurance operations, coverage evaluation, claims investigation, loss assessment and reserving, negotiation, and settlement.
- Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively with minimal supervision.
- A commitment to exceptional internal and external customer service.
- An associate or bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred, but not required.
About the Position
The Senior Claims Consultant works in a variety of settings that may include a professional office, courtroom, boardroom, or claimant's residence. The position also involves travel, primarily within Oregon, and may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule in accordance with current SDAO policy.
