Record $437 Million from LWCF to Support Outdoor Access and Recreation
The Department of the Interior has announced a historic $437 million allocation from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) to all 50 states, U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia—the largest in the program’s history. This funding will support the development and rehabilitation of parks, trails, and outdoor recreation facilities across the nation.
Secretary’s Order 3442 directs Interior to work closely with state, local, and tribal governments to ensure investments expand recreation access—especially in underserved and urban communities. Projects that improve wildlife habitat, water quality, and flood protection while creating new opportunities for outdoor activity will be prioritized.
Since 1965, LWCF has funded more than 45,000 projects, strengthening local economies and expanding public access to recreation. Parks and recreation districts are encouraged to track state allocations and upcoming grant opportunities to support community needs.
