National Special Districts Action Week: August 7-1

The nation’s special districts are called to engage with their federal legislators during Congress’ August recess to advocate on top federal priorities during the 2023 National Special Districts Action Week.

For the second year, the National Special Districts Coalition (NSDC) will coordinate the advocacy event, formally August 7-11, 2023. During this time, special districts providing critical, essential services in their communities will connect with their members of the U.S. House and Senate to garner support of forthcoming legislation to establish a federal “special district” definition and on solutions to close water infrastructure gaps for firefighting in the wildland-urban interface.

Aside from highlighting priority issues, the Coalition’s overarching objective is to provide special districts with necessary resources to directly engage with their federal representatives to raise awareness of the essential services special districts provide to their constituents, advocate on special districts’ priority federal issues, and discuss matters of local concern.

The NSDC Advocacy and Grants Team will offer a full August 2 briefing on special districts’ federal advocacy priorities and perspective on the latest out of Washington, D.C., ahead of the Action Week. This webinar will go beyond current events and cover how best to approach your members of Congress, when to do so, and how this Advocacy Week engagement can supplement your grants/project funding needs.
