The Monroe Fire District Board of Directors are seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of fire chief. Under the authority of the Board of Directors, the District Fire Chief serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the district. This position is responsible for the overall management and operation of the district including responsibility for organizational planning, sustaining a viable funding base that supports the Fire District, promoting District activities and assuring that goals of the board and district are fulfilled. The Fire Chief is also expected to fulfill the duties of a first responder to Fire and Emergency Medical emergencies.
The Monroe Fire District is located in South Benton County, 23 miles North of Eugene, Oregon, 17 miles South of Corvallis, Oregon. The District covers 134 square miles, from three fire stations, 12 Volunteers and 2.5 career staff. In 2021 the Fire District is expected to respond to approximately 380 calls for service. The City of Monroe is the only incorporated city within the District with a 2019 census population of 640. In addition to the City of Monroe, there are several unincorporated communities in the District including Alpine, Bellfountain, Glenbrook, Ingram Island and Irish Bend.
The District is a one hour drive of scenic Oregon coast to the West and Cascade Mountains to the East. Within the Fire District boundaries are some of the most productive salmon and trout streams in Oregon. The region also has an abundance of mountain bike and hiking trails
Agriculture and related businesses are the primary commerce within the District.
The Fire District is also a 30 minute drive from two of Oregon’s NCAA universities; University of Oregon (Eugene) and Oregon State University (Corvallis). A 30 minute commute will also get you to the two nearby Community Colleges. Linn-Benton Community College in Albany and Lane Community College in Eugene.
The successful candidate will be given a conditional job offer pending satisfactory negotiation of a personal service contact, passing a Fire District NFPA 1582 medical exam and physical agility test.

The Fire Chief will be expected to reside within a 15-minute response time to the District’s main fire station located at 680 Commercial Street Monroe, Oregon within one year of employment.
