Job Opening Description

 

Under the general supervision of the Division Chief – EMS, the Community EMT provides integrated health services in partnership with other health professionals. This position is responsible for assisting the Community Paramedic with in-home assessment and treatment of patients. These services include but are not limited to disease management and education, prevention and wellness, mental health, and home safety evaluations.

Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of the Community Paramedic

This is a Full-Time limited duration (grant funded) position that is expected to last no longer than 2 years.  Limited duration positions are eligible for benefits.
The listed salary range is being negotiated with the IAFF Local 1159 union, and the final salary range will be discussed with the candidates during the interview process.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

The functions listed below are characteristic of the type and level of work associated with this position. They are not all-inclusive. Individuals may perform some or all, as well as other similar work.

  • Provides basic medical care under the guidance of community paramedics, including administering medications, dressing wounds, and monitoring vital signs within the scope of practice and training.
  • Provides support during emergency situations and assists community paramedics as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers and other health professionals
  • Document patient encounters accurately and maintain detailed records of services provided with district-adopted software programs.
  • Complete required paperwork and reports in a timely manner
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
  • Participate in ongoing training and continuing education programs
  • Educate patients and their families on health management, disease prevention, and medication adherence
  • Collaborate with other emergency responders, (including paramedics, firefighters, and police officers), healthcare teams, insurance companies and other support agencies.
  • Assist community paramedics in conducting home visits and assessments for patients in the community.
  • Provides education and support to patients and their families as needed
  • Assist with implementing care plans developed by community paramedics, ensuring patients receive appropriate treatment and follow-up care.
  • Administers patient care consistent with protocols and Fire District policies
  • Adheres to all relevant regulations, protocols and district policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or College Degree
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Community Healthcare Worker (CHW), EMT, or related education, license or certification at the time of application

  • Basic proficiency in computer applications and electronic medical records systems
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds
  • A compassionate and empathetic demeanor, with a genuine desire to help others
  • Knowledge, experience and understanding related to current EMS practices, including current standards of care for cardiac, medical, trauma, obstetric, pediatric and geriatric emergencies
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations
  • Ability to read and understand, and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Bilingual
  • CPR Certified
