The Special Districts Insurance Services (SDIS) Board of Trustees is soliciting applications from persons interested in serving on the SDIS Board of Trustees. One position is currently vacant with a term expiring June 30, 2020. To encourage diverse representation of our membership, and because two of the seven trustee positions are currently filled by fire districts, the trustees are looking to fill this position with an individual not associated with a fire district.

 

The SDIS Board of Trustees serves as the policy-making arm of SDIS’s various insurance programs. These programs include the general liability, auto liability, auto property damage, property, ancillary coverages, workers’ compensation, and medical/dental/life/disability. New Board of Trustees members are elected by the current Board of Trustees.

 

Regular attendance at Trust meetings and participation in periodic training seminars is an important part of a trustee’s role. The Board of Trustees meets approximately five times a year in Tigard, Salem, at the Annual Conference and the April Board/Trust Retreat. Trustees are also encouraged to increase their knowledge through attendance at conferences and trainings on insurance pools.

 

The meeting, travel, and preparation time requirements associated with the activities of the Board of Trustees requires applicants to be willing to make a substantial time commitment to service on the Trust. It is estimated that trustees will commit approximately 10-15 days per year to working on Trust business. SDIS reimburses trustees for out-of-pocket expenses associated with travel to regular Trust meetings and to conferences/training seminars (e.g. mileage, airfare, registration fees, meals, and lodging).

 

SDAO staff, insurance agents associated with the Trust, or employees of Trust service providers or their immediate relatives are not qualified to serve as trustees.

 

Factors that will be considered in the appointment process include:

* Knowledge and/or experience with insurance, finance, and risk management issues associated with managing special districts.

* Knowledge of, and participation in, SDAO programs and activities.

* Knowledge and support of Special Districts Insurance Services Trust programs and services.

* Appropriate leadership and teamwork skills.

* Available time to participate.

Current elected officials and staff members of SDIS member districts who are interested in serving as a trustee are encouraged to complete the application form and return to the SDIS office by mail, fax or email by July 26, 2019.
