Special Districts Association of Oregon Announces Recipients of Internship Grant Program


Special Districts Association of Oregon (SDAO) awarded $37,833 in funding to 13 special districts in Oregon through its Internship Grant Program. These grants are used by award recipients to help fund district projects and provide local government work experience to college students.


Districts must submit applications outlining the details of their project, the benefits it will bring to the district, and how they will utilize a summer intern. The maximum grant is $3,000 and must be matched by the district at 50%. For example, a project that will cost $6,000 or more is eligible for a $3,000 grant. At the end of the summer, recipients must submit a project summary and receipts to SDAO.


All SDAO members were invited to apply. The following districts were selected:

LaPine Rural Fire Protection District  Complete wildland urban interface project inventory.  $2,610  
North Morrow Vector Control District   Mosquito-borne disease surveillance program.  $3,000
Pleasant Hill Rural Fire Protection District              Implement and update map book.  $2,500
Port of Hood River   Assess condition of Port’s bike/recreation of Port's bike/recreation sites
and rip-rap condition of Hood River waterfront.
Port of Morrow  Develop safety program and policies. $3,000
Rainbow Water District Update water meters to radio read. $1,900
Salem Area Mass Transit District Develop mitigation plan and assist in the creation of a proactive
safety management system. 
Santa Clara Rural Fire Protection District  Transition paper emergency incident reporting system to national fire incident          
reporting system and station readiness project.
Willamalane Park and Recreation District Create internal safety website. $3,000
Yamhill Fire Protection District Document location of bridges and culverts. $3,000
